Going Green in Cost Saving Way

Going green can be expensive, but I am a believer in one step at a time, lots of small actions add up and sometimes the green option is the cheap option.

For example:

Cleaning:

Vinegar is a safe and powerful cleaner that is much cheaper than any of the harmful chemicals most people use. The production of these chemicals are very harmful to the environment most are petrol products in addition to being poisonous chemicals. Replacing them with Vinegar & Baking soda. You can unclog toilets and drains with a few cups of vinegar some baking soda, let it sit for 30 minutes and follow with boiling water. Floors, bathtubs, sinks and toilets all can be cleaned with vinegar. The only draw back for some people is the smell but it goes away quickly.

Gardening:

Replace a portion of that sprawling, water consuming lawn and grow something to eat: A small organic tomato & cucumber garden from seed will reduce the pesticide use to grow them for the grocery store, reduce the gas it takes to drive to the store and back and you will be sure that the food you grow is poison free. Stop buying plants that are in plastic tubs and trays, opt for the ones that come in peat pots or grow them yourself from seed.

Pest Control

It is many times safer & cheaper to use natural pest controls, for example if you have an ant problem in the Kitchen and you unload a $5 can of raid on them you are poisoning your personal environment, the environment at large and its more expensive than using just Vinegar.

In your home and garden it is free to find 2nd uses for things you would normally throw away. If you don?t want it but it?s still useful, give it away or donate it. Giving things a 2nd life greatly reduces landfills.

Parans System Making the Maximum use of Sunlight

A meaningful video of Parans System, an energy saving system

Parans system is a environmental friendly system that collect the sunlight, transfer the sunlight through optical cable and distribute the sunlight in a building.

Globally, electrical Lighting account almost 20% usage of total Electricity Usage. Parans idea in letting the sunlight can go into the building and save half of the Electric Lighting used. The sunlight is collected and distributed to different work places through optical fiber cable.

With the using of sunlight will lower the produce of green house gases. research shows the sunlight also increase the productivity by up to 16%. If Parans technology replace 10% of the Electric Light of every building of US, Europe and Shina, we could reduce the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) by 220 000 000.

The parans not only make the employee and environment, but also Finance Department happy. Turns off the Light, Here comes the Sunshine.

In collaborate with the environmental caring campaign, Tesco Hypermarket have their own way on reducing pollution and saving energy. These included:

  • Environmentally friendly stores - Selling energy saving products (e.g Light bulbs)
  • Energy Champions - Their Facilities has lower energy usage (e.g. Refrigerators)

So next time if you shopping at Tesco, bring your own bag, it saves the environment, and there is a reward awaiting you for your effort, Cheers.

Biodegradable Plastic : Eco-Friendly Product

Share with you how are the plastic bags contribute to pollution and how can we avoid them

Conventional plastic disposable product such as shopping bags (which should be re-used as Garbage bags), Polypropylene Containers, Cups, Cutlery, Styrofoam lunch box and etc will cause unhygenic condition that should not be reused. They will take centuries to degrade, causes drainage clogging and need more landfill to dispose. in result, create a very serious pollution and waste disposal problem with dire environmental impact.

Developed countries as in EU seek hydro & oxo biodegradable plastics as part of their waste management solution. With reference to PRW.com dated 21st July 2008, Member of European Parliament, consultant on EU environment policy & waste management specialist, Dr. Caroline Jackson urged the European Parliament must give more support to hydro-biodegradable and oxo-biodegradable plastics which is "harmlessly degrade at the end of their useful life"

Lets see how are the biodegradable plastics works, if we put a biodegradable plastic bag at sunshine and rain for around 2 weeks, it will look like this, please be noted that this is happen naturally, no human force is applied:

Imagine how the world will looks like if we keep on using non-degradable plastic bags

Last but not least, taking care of environment should start from daily life. Let us just start by using biodegradable plastic bags :)

p/s : You can re-use the plastic bags (even bio-degradable plastic bag) as long as it is in good condition, no need to dispose it every time. Always Remember, Re-use and Recycle.

Blackle : Save the energy when using internet

I would like to share some of my idea in saving the energy when you are using the internet. Many internet users love to use Google, but I would like to introduce another energy saving search engine that is also powered by Google: Blackle (www.blackle.com)

Blackle is similar with the Google search engine, the only different is Blackle is Blackle is "Black" in color and the words is display in white, it is quite different with some (or we said MOST) of the search which is in White in color.

Why use Blackle?
Blackle saves energy because the screen is predominantly black. Research says that "a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen." A White Screen display at the monitor consume more power than a black screen.

In January 2007 a blog post titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year proposed the theory that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy due to the popularity of the search engine. Since then there has been skepticism about the significance of the energy savings that can be achieved and the cost in terms of readability of black web pages.

What do Blackle contribute to the environment?
As explain as above, Blackle save energy, you will see a meter shows that how many energy had been saved since the existence of Blackle. Until now (09 August 2009), Blackle have saved 1,383,445.995 Watt on the energy, the helps to prevent global warming.

What can we do to reduce global warming?
Just a simple one, you can just made Blackle as your home page or default search engine, start from today. You can also follow some safety tips that Blackle suggested in their Blackle Energy Saving Tips page http://www.blackle.com/tips/ or follow Blackle on twitter http://twitter.com/blackle/

Together we share and spread the ideas that can saves our environment.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog! Take a second to peak around and check out some of my previous posts. Of course, I would love to find out what you think as well, so make sure to comment. See you around!
